These hanging bugs are utterly charming and true textile art for your home — think of them as soft sculpture! Hang one from the ceiling, place one in a plant, pin one on a hat, plop one on a bookshelf, make their legs grab on to anything...the possibilities are really endless. Each one is truly one of a kind - no two fabric and color combinations are the same! Each one differs slightly in shape and size because each one was hand crafted — so amazing!
Background History:
These were discovered, well stored, in a home in Westchester NY, still packaged in individual bags and boxes since 1975. They belonged to the inimitable Mrs. Estelle Aronson who was a senior jewelry designer for Harry Winston in the 1950s -1960s. Her many closets and entire home reflected her discerning eye for design.
Estelle & her husband had a design business in the 1970s and they had this pillow imported from Thailand (they were still in shipping boxes from Bangkok). I’m not fully certain, but it is believed that she designed these and commissioned to have them made in Thailand. Her and her husband were apparently then distributing them (I found their 1977 wholesale order form) and fulfilling orders from their home. SO WILD! Details about their business and why these remained untouched in the house for over 45 years will forever remain a mystery. I’m just so happy to have found them and feel honored to find them homes.
